The Junkers CL.I ground-attack aircraft of 1917 pioneered close air support tactics with specialised armoured design. Its robust single-engine platform achieved 161 km/h while carrying defensive weaponry and bombs for low-level attacks. The 12-metre span provided reasonable manoeuvrability for evasion from ground fire.
