Another newspaper delivery variant, the larger HD 40 of 1927 improved cargo capacity with a 17.6-metre wingspan. This single-engine design achieved 180 km/h and reflected growing confidence in aviation for specialty cargo missions. The newspaper delivery role, while quaint today, represented genuine early commercial aviation applications during the post-war aviation boom.
