Diamond DA40

The Diamond DA40 is an Austrian-built, composite-construction, low-wing single featuring the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, the premium modern PPL(A) and IR trainer at forward-thinking European ATOs. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.

What is the Diamond DA40 used for in flight training?

The DA40 introduces students to modern avionics from the first lesson, building G1000 proficiency directly applicable to commercial aircraft. Its composite construction and low-drag design deliver better fuel efficiency than legacy aluminium trainers, reducing hourly costs. The DA40's crisp and responsive handling builds better stick-and-rudder skills than some older trainers. Its diesel engine variant (DA40 TDI) provides jet-fuel compatibility, reducing refuelling complexity on European cross-country flights. Many integrated ATOs use the DA40 from first solo through to IR completion.
