The Soviet Tupolev ANT-9 airliner debuted in 1929 as a twin-engine transport crewed by two with a 23.9-metre wingspan and 17-metre fuselage. It achieved 215 km/h and 700-kilometre range, serving early Soviet civilian aviation routes. The ANT-9 represented Andrei Tupolev's growing mastery of monoplane transport design.
