SOCATA Rallye 100ST
Last updated: 2026-04-21
The SOCATA Rallye 100ST is a French all-metal, low-wing, four-seat aircraft featuring leading-edge slats and full-span flaps that deliver STOL capability and remarkably docile stall characteristics for PPL training. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.
What is the SOCATA Rallye 100ST used for in flight training?
The Rallye's full-span slats and drooping ailerons create a wing profile during slow flight that is nearly impossible to stall abruptly, giving instructors and students high confidence during stall and slow-flight exercises. This characteristic makes it particularly well-suited for early ab-initio training where handling confidence matters most. Many French and Belgian clubs operated the Rallye as their primary trainer during the 1970s-90s, and surviving examples continue to provide low-cost PPL training. The Rallye's STOL performance suits grass-strip operations common at smaller European aero clubs.
