The Polikarpov I-16 is a Soviet fighter from 1933 that pioneered the low-wing monoplane configuration in fighter design. With a 9-meter wingspan, 6.1-meter fuselage, and single engine, it reaches 489 km/h maximum speed and carries 700 kilometers of range. The I-16 became a dominant Soviet pursuit platform of the 1930s.
