The HE 2 reconnaissance floatplane of 1923 closely paralleled the HE 1, measuring 12.7 metres with a slightly shorter 17.5-metre span. Its 183 km/h speed represented marginal improvement, suggesting refinement of the same basic design concept. Both variants served German naval reconnaissance requirements throughout the 1920s with similar performance and capabilities.
