Diamond DA20

The Diamond DA20 is a two-seat, composite, low-wing aircraft powered by a 125 hp Continental or Rotax engine, the ideal lightweight platform for LAPL and first-hours PPL(A) training. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.

What is the Diamond DA20 used for in flight training?

The DA20's light weight and efficient design keep hourly fuel costs among the lowest of any EASA-approved trainer, making it highly cost-effective for the first 20-30 hours of PPL(A) training. The composite construction and modern aerodynamics give handling characteristics closer to a sports aircraft than a legacy metal trainer, helping students develop feel and coordination quickly. Side-by-side seating and excellent canopy visibility create a pleasant training environment. Many schools use the DA20 for LAPL and early PPL hours, then transition students to a four-seater for navigation exercises.
