The Soviet Tupolev I-4 fighter emerged in 1927 as a single-seat, single-engine monoplane with 11.4-metre wingspan and 7.3-metre fuselage. Reaching 257 km/h with 524-kilometre range, it served Soviet fighter squadrons during the interwar period. The I-4 represented early Soviet fighter development and growing aircraft capability.
