The Piasecki H-21 was an American military transport helicopter that first flew in 1952, designed to carry troops and cargo for Cold War military operations. With a 16-meter fuselage, single engine, and 204.4 kilometers per hour maximum speed, it provided practical lift capability for battalion-scale operations. The tandem-rotor configuration offered adequate lift while remaining operationally practical. Its service established helicopters as viable transport platforms.
