The He 50 dive bomber of 1931 combined bomb-carrying capacity with modest manoeuvrability in a two-crew configuration. Its 11-metre span and 235 km/h speed reflected the bombing role's different requirements compared to pure fighters. The 1000-kilometre range enabled escort of ground forces across extended campaigns.
