Flight Performance and Planning

Last updated: April 21, 2026 · Maintained by Aviatr Editorial Team

Flight Performance and Planning (FPP) bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical flight preparation. Topics include aircraft performance data (takeoff and landing distances, climb performance, cruise fuel flow, range and endurance), the use of performance charts and tables from the POH/AFM, mass and balance calculations (centre of gravity limits, loading envelope), NOTAM interpretation, AIP structure, route and fuel planning, alternate selection, weather minima, and flight plan filing (ICAO flight plan form). FPP questions frequently require calculation using specific tables or graphs, so practising chart interpolation under exam conditions is essential. Pay particular attention to density altitude effects on performance (covered jointly with Meteorology), takeoff distance corrections, and fuel reserve requirements under SERA.
