The Antonov An-22 strategic airlifter, first flying in 1965, represented Soviet advances in strategic transport and air logistics operations. Five crew operated this massive aircraft across a 64.4-meter span, reaching 740 km/h with 5,000-kilometer range for intercontinental payload delivery. Its four engines drove the development of global airlift capabilities and Soviet military power projection concepts.
