Transitioning to civilian service, the Il-12 transport aircraft of 1945 carried passengers and cargo with twin-engine reliability. Its three-crew layout and 31.7-metre span enabled movement of significant payloads across Soviet territory. The 407 km/h cruise and 1500-kilometre range suited domestic scheduled service and cargo operations.
