The Il-10 ground-attack aircraft of 1944 refined the Il-2 concept with improved performance and firepower. Its two-crew configuration and single-engine efficiency achieved 551 km/h—substantial for a heavily-armoured attack platform. The 800-kilometre range enabled tactical support of advancing Soviet ground forces during the war's final campaigns.
