Jodel DR1050

GAPiston single-engine

Last updated: 2026-04-21

The Jodel DR1050 is a French wooden low-wing, three-seat aircraft powered by a 100 hp Continental O-200, a staple of French aero clubs for decades and the aircraft on which many European pilots first flew solo. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.

What is the Jodel DR1050 used for in flight training?

The DR1050 represents the classic French aero club training tradition, using a simple wooden airframe that is inexpensive to maintain and easy to inspect at local club level. Its responsive handling and light controls teach good coordination, while the small cabin keeps student and instructor in close communication. Many French PPL(A) pilots built their first solo and cross-country hours in the DR1050 before moving to more modern types. A large fleet remains active at French clubs supported by a dedicated homebuilt and club maintenance community.
